    Japanese email (Outlook 2000)

We are trying to receive email from Japan, but our computer is not accepting the Japanese script. It tries to use the english characters, but is unreadable - gobblygook.

What do I need to do to be able to view the Japanese characters? Is it something in Outlook? or is it a Printer/Font issue? Please help.

Here's an interesting article: Sending and Receiving E-Mail in Japanese under Windows: An Overview. But I digress...

I don't know if this is a complete answer, but you could start here: Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 250057 - OL2000: How to Enable Japanese/Chinese Support in Outlook 2000.

One word of caution on using IME, as this allows a user to safe files with Japanese characters you need to either ensure your systems, esp. network servers, will accept these without any issue or ensure the user/s can be trusted not to use anything other than the standard characters in a file name.

I have had a bad trip in restoring a Netware server because of file names with Japanese characters. Unix is likely to be the same. I think Windows servers may not suffer, but I do not know.
