    Page numbers (Word 2000/SP 3)

    I have been given a document that has several section breaks all starting on an even page. The page numbers in the footers start with 2. And yes the user wants the page numbers to start at 1. I have formatted the page number, tried having odd and even page footers and nothing has worked. Please ... HELP!

    Change the first section so that it starts on NEXT page or ODD page and then you should be able to format the page numbers to start at one. In "normal" view, double-click on the first section break (right on the line that indicates the break).

    I should have mentioned this earlier.
    The reason for having section breaks starting on an Even page is so that when the documet is printed double-sided, the new section will start on the facing page NOT on the back of the previous page.

    What happens if you go to each section, click the Format/Page numbers button in the header/footer toolbar, & set them to restart at 0? By the way, I assume that the "Same as previous" has been selected for each section, correct?

    Hi Phil
    Now the page numbering starts at 0. "Same as Previous" has been set for each section.

    I'm a bit confused about the reason for the even page section breaks. When I open a book, the page facing me on the right are always odd-numbered, while the pages facing me on the left are always even numbered. So I would think you would want odd page section breaks. Does this change because you're trying to print double-sided?

    Hi remy,

    A quick & dirty way to overcome this is by canging the page number field to:
    {={PAGE}-1}

    Cheers
