Can you delete the document from the print queue?

    Re: Bogus

You don't mention what version of Windows, but I have had a number of PCs running Win9x which had persistant printer problems. The was to delete the printer and reinstall the drivers afresh.

    Doug,
Be careful if this thing looks to go out to the net to "download" something ! Appears to be suspicious to me. <img src=/S/cop.gif border=0 alt=cop width=15 height=24>

'Remote Downlevel Document' Datatype RAW to Printe

The document does not appear in the print queue
    I use Win2000 Pro
I believe I have deleted the printer and reinstalled
I am VERY suspicious that this is EVIL

I have had this problem on another PC (my phone system server) [also Win2000 Pro] for months.
I have not looked at it for a month but just did - EUREKA! There are entries in the print queue

    MORE INFO
<*> "Remote Downlevel Document" - Owner = Guest, 50688 bytes, Pages 0, Datatype RAW, Processor WinPrint
    <*> It arrives once a day apparently - the submission time varies (the last few days = 2PM, 6PM, 9PM, 1PM, 6PM, 12 Mindnight, 3pm, 6pm, 8pm)

I deleted all the printers but one (Windows won't allow the final one to go, maybe because my print cue is not empty.

I cannot drag "Remote Downlevel Document" into Notepad - the only options are Pause, Resume, Restart (and Delete, of course)

I just added a Password to the Guest (Windows will not let me delete Guest)

'Remote Downlevel Document' Datatype RAW to Printe

NOTE 1 - Title changed from BOGUS [an error on my part]
NOTE 2 - Many new details added below

For several weeks a "Printers Folder" message box pops up daily -

"There was an error found when printing the document "Remote Download Document" to LPT1. "

I have had problems with the default tray on my printer for several weeks [coincidence?] so I can't print this "remote download doc" to see what it is.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Doug

Doug, try stopping the spooler service and then opening the following folder: %windir%system32spoolPRINTERS where %windir% is the location of your Windows 2000 installation. Delete anything that you find in this folder - queued print jobs should have files in this folder. After deleting the file(s), restart the spooler service. Hopefully this will kill your phantom print job.

    Hi Mark

I don't know if this might help....it's not very much, but it might give a clue to something that might help.

    Have a Great day!!!

Probably not, since Doug noted that there was no job in the queue - but it's a handy thing to note, regardless.

Perhaps this might help ?? Although I don't know that you actually want to let this thing do what it wants, the way it wants to.

Update your AV software, set your firewall to HIGH if your curiosity gets the better of you. But do proceed with caution. This could be a trojan calling for it's payload.

One other thought..... are you or is anyone you know using PCAnywhere or GoToMyPC ???

Re: 'Remote Downlevel Document' Datatype RAW to Printe

    good ideas -
I have loaded but never run PCAnywhere - never GoToMyPC
I think this problem originated from my son's PC
    He is 17
I think I will force him to run SpyBot's Search & Destroy
    (Napster days were nicer)
    Thanks, thanks
