New Reply Notice

Hi Eileen:
I notice that sometimes I come back to a forum and messages that I've previously read are marked as "New", both on the forum index and when I'm viewing the threads themselves.

For example, today I came back to the Word forum & a number of topics that I had viewed were marked "New". It wasn't because I came in thru email links because these were messages from, say, two days ago that weren't marked "new" yesterday. I reloaded the page, too.

Am I going crazy? (I suppose that's an unrelated question.)

Re: New Reply Notice

I've noticed this on occasion too. Sometimes I'll open up IE in another window and as the Lounge is my start page, I'm logged in twice. This appears to reset my 'Read' status.
Also I suspect using your back-button may prevent the status from being updated.

I've had this happen sometimes too. I don't know if it's because I've read posts on one machine and logged on later at another machine. Some of my own posts have been marked as unread.

On that last part, I think Eileen explained that it's not marked "read" until you click a link to the page that has the post. It doesn't happen when you post & then are automatically taken back to the post.

Re: New Reply Notice

Ok, fair nuff.

But I have had much of a thread which I've been participating in marked as unread- but very seldom, and usually when I'm on another computer. (I am logged on at both).

Re: New Reply Notice

I'm seeing much the same thing as Geoff.
I'm accessing the Lounge from 3 different computers (well, 2, but one has a dual boot).
The unread markings can get a little flaky, but I figured it was due to my promiscuous computer usage habits (maybe that's not quite the right word?)

Just a thought - I wonder if edited messages get re-flagged as new, but to the reader appear as read?

I've seen my own messages flagged as new, and I know I didn't edit them.

Your own stuff should never be flagged - but then, as I said before, it is a bit iffy and Scream is trying to come up with a better way.
