Recommended SR and SP for Office 2000? (2000)

What is Woody's current recommendation for service patches on this product? I have a new computer to install to and want to know how "far" to upgrade/patch it. Thx!

SR-1 is good and safe (actually it's SR-1a, but whatever you get is likely to be SR-1a even if it calls itself SR-1).

SP-2 and later include the PITA e-mail security patches for Outlook. However, there are some bugs that really require the updates, and there might be some security patches that require them, too.

    1. Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a) Update or original SR-1 Update - "must have".

    2. Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3) - "Woody's approved"; if you use Outlook, don't forget to install Ken Slovak's Attachment Options - "Woody's recommended"

    3. Additional security updates:
    word - Word 2000 Update: October 16, 2002
    outlook - Outlook 2000 Update: December 18, 2002
See download details to decide do you need it.

Can you give us the numbers that would show up in Word>Help>About for these updates?

    Word 2000 (original) - 9.0.3822
    Word 2000 SR-1 - 9.0.4402
    Word 2000 SR-1 with SP3 - 9.0.6926

However, it is possible to encounter other configurations: 9.0.3821 SR-1, 9.0.4119 SR-1 etc. Each patch adds its number to the version number in Help | About box.

Re: Recommended SR and SP for Office 2000? (2000)

I recently installed the SR-1a & SR3 Now when I went to use a prior worksheet and use a macro I get the message "Macros are disabled in this workbook ...." When I attempt to enable the macros, help tells me to go to Tools|Macros|Security and set the level to medium. However there is no Security option when I attempt to do this.

I did a search of the MS Knowledge Base to find a solution but they all come up with about the same directions.
Can you help me get my macros back?

The option is also missing from Word, but the macros appear to be working.

I'm running O2k with SR-3 installed and when I am in a worksheet and click on Tools-->Macro, I see a submenu that includes: Macros, Record New Macro, Security, Visual Basic Editor and Microsoft Script Editor. Are you saying that you don't see those choices? Do you have the Tools-->Customize setting for Menus show recently used commands first turned on? That could delay seeing the Security item on the menu I suppose.

    Charlotte;
When I asked the question, Security was not on my Tools|Macros menu. Only Run Macro,Record Macro and VB Editor. I'm sure that security was there before I ran the update, and I had not customized since then. But your response led me to do a customize and add security onto the menu. Once there I was able to enable my macros.
    So thanks are in order.

    As long as you're back in business, that's all that matters. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

Re: Recommended SR and SP for Office 2000? (2000)

Unfortunately, my fix was only temporary. The next time I opened Excel the tools|Macros menu had lost the Security item that I had added. I tried to ensure that it would remain by making a minor change in Normal.xls and saved those changes but "Security" still would not remain.
    Any sugestions?

Also, on a related subject. Used to be that when I was recording a macro, the small Visual Basic Toolbar would open (it had the "End Recording" button) but it does show up now.
    How is that controlled?
