Purging 'Remembered' Email Addresses (WXP SP-1, O2002)

Where does Outlook keep its history of previously-used email addresses? I have a few old, incorrect addresses that keep popping up as Outlook completes an address. I need to purge Outlook's history since other members of my family who aren't paying attention to details press Send and, of course, the message bounces. I have verified that these addresses do not exist in any of my contact folders. I think that I can circumvent this problem by unchecking the "Suggest names while completing To, Cc and Bcc fields" option but that's a kludge. I tried unchecking that box and restarting Outlook in the hopes that this action would erase the history ... it didn't.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Hi Al,

May I ask what the end result of this was?

I have a user with a similar problem in his company Outlook setup. If I do remove this file is it likely to cause him grief later? (I could rename it and change it back if I do have any issues, I guess.)

    TIA.

    TIA,

You certainly may. I deleted the "<disk>ocuments and Settings<userid>Application DataMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.NK2" file. The "remembered addresses" vanished and Outlook began building a new .NK2 file.

No problems. If you feel safer keeping the old one until you're sure, yes, rename it. I usually put an underscore in front of the file name when I check out things like this.

How did you ever find this message without the search function? Do you keep a cache of lounge entries? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Good luck,
    Al

    Hi Al,

Hmmm, I think I need to change my name, the "TIA" was shorthand for "Thanks In Advance". <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> (I once had another Lounger refer to me as "Emile".) <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> If any of our GIF experts are up for a challenge, how about a Smilie for "Identity Crisis".

As to how I found it, that was serendipity, I had added it to my "Post Reminders" list, but have no idea why.

Thanks for the quick response, I'm off the try this now.
