Tan-Tan

There is a common English word that contains the consecutive letter combination T-A-N-T-A-N. Good luck finding this one.

Antantanarivo is the capital of Malagasy (Madagascar), but I don't think it will count as a common English word

Wow! Stuart, You did it. That's great. I tried this one myself for a week and could never figure it out. Finally, looked in the back of the book and .

You should give this <!post=puzzle,260055>puzzle<!/post> a try, I've noticed you're especially good at the word-puzzles...

I confess, I cheated
I do know the answer to <post#=260055>post 260055</post#> but I left it for others to have a go.

Hey...It's not "cheating" when a carpenter uses a hammer to drive a nail. Having the right tool for the job is essential! I downloaded that program when you referenced it once before. I didn't realize the scope of its capabilities or I would have used it myself.

Of course, it helps when you have an 8 megabyte Word database! (Got 15 results, had to run through Websters site to determine if they were valid or not. The two listed are valid english words)

Re: Tan-Tan

Most of my entries come from one of six various puzzle books that I've had for years. I've always enjoyed the challenge of solving puzzles, especially math puzzles. Usually, when a puzzle ends up having multiple solutions, you could chalk that one up to a novice puzzle-makers mistake. These are two of my original creations (and my favorites!): <!post=Here,250234>Here<!/post> and <!post=Here,229371>Here<!/post>

Ricky,

That second link is a tough puzzle! Can you give us a hint?

Uh oh! I know it's a legit link. I think that the Puzzles forum maintains the older puzzles for a limited time only. Must have expired.

Yes, a thread in Puzzles is deleted 90 days after something has been posted in it for the last time. But something must have gone wrong here, for this particular post was your "Star Post" puzzle; it wasn't supposed to have expired at all.

Re: Tan-Tan

As Hans says, it should not have expired - I removed the "Best before..." status from it when it was Starred. Feel free to re-post it sometime.
- something else to add to the To-Do list.... I may try a couple of tests in the sandpit...
