Which SP for Office XP (Office XP Pro)

I apologize for this quetion as it no doubt has been discussed. Let's look forward to the return of the search engine!

Are there any service packs that we SHOULD NOT use with Office XP? I just did a reinstall of my Office XP Pro and have not yet put a service pack on. I'm wondering if I should.

    Thanks a lot.

I've got the latest updated, #2, installed, and have had wonderful luck with it on WinXP Pro and Windows 2000. The suite seems more stable with it applied, particularly Outlook.

Like wise, I have it on 4 machines and no problems, all are running Windows XP Pro (3), Home (1).

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Mine is also delightfully stable on 2 PCs, both running Windows XP Professional SP1.

    Bob--

I have had them both since released work very well. I think the perception stigma of bugs that has become attached to a few of the Windows XP and IE Hotfixes for a of late is beginning to rub off to other products that don't deserve negative connotations. If you scan different Office XP newsletters, they are reviewed favorably and you should have little to fear. If you search the MSKB for "Office XP: XP Issues Fixed" you will see a number of reasons to download them. I respect your being cautious--it would be nice if there were some objective data base where all the bugs reported to MS could be viewed.

There is...deep within the bowels of the Microsoft campus in Redmond, but you or I will never see it. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> In all seriousness, there's a problem with that idea. How do you define a bug? Those who write code define a bug in different terms than someone who is an end user. There are also several levels of "bugs" - anything that breaks functionality, for example, or security risks - and there are those that just aren't worth the effort on a software project, such as little GUI glitches and other anomalies that don't affect usage but annoy. I term those "golden paintbrush" enhancements, as suggested by a friend of mine.

Microsoft, however, has not demonstrated a very good record at acknowledging some known and wide-spread issues with their products. Blame that on middle management, because there isn't a programmer worth his (or her) salt that would know of a problem and not try to fix it. For Office XP, the error reporting system seems to have resulted in targeted fixes that don't get in the way - a very GOOD thing!

The subjectivity issue is a good point--makes it pretty hard to quantitate these and categorize them unless they can be objectively classified--and the delay by middle management in acknowledging these problems has to be highly frustrating to these programmers, script writers, code writers who work hard to get it done well.
