access home computer

I have Windows 98SE installed and would like to access my home computer from work. I use a dsl connection for internet access. Is there a way to do this? Thanks for your help.

there's a few ways to do this, 1. is make 98 a server (i haven't done it) Under Control Panel - Add Remove Program, then the Windows Setup tab, Under Communications, check the Dial-up server and use IP instead of a phone number or
2. the easy way, get a copy of PCAnywhere.

I suggest 2, its fast and easy and gives you complete control of the 98 machine

I agree with Mary's comment about allowing others to hack into your computer especially via an ISP. If you can dial direct, IE have a modem & seperate line on your work computer it would be more secure.

If not, & you use your ISP, I would recommend you use a software Firewall like Black Ice, I have used this for about year & it appears to be very effective.[img]/w3timages/icons/shocked.gif[/img]

depending on what you want to have at home, (i host my own email and website) LINKSYS makes a great lil' cable/dsl router that has a hardware firewall and allows you to open only ports you need.... Its only about $150...

I agree with mwolfman, I also use the LinkSys box to access the internet via my cable modem for mutiple computers. The firewall is excellant.
