Does anyone know the easiest way to get rid of annoying spam mail? after two days, 47 emails were found in my yahoo inbox, 4 of which were for me! I heard recently that unsubscribing from some things give my email to people who will just sell it to more people so that THEY can spam me. Help!!

Wow, the hot topic of the day. Breeze through the posts in Software Finds and Wants for a lot of good information. Someday, when the search feature is alive again, it will be easier to hunt....but for now, this is the way!

Never, ever "unsubsubscribe" from something you never subscribed to in the first place - it simply confirms to the spammer your email address is valid.

To reduce the amount of SPAM, try the following.
1. Get rid of your current email address.
2. Sign up for a new one.
3. When you do, make SURE that you opt out of everything you can. Read every part of the sign up page & privacy page.
4. Never post your true addess on a public forum. (This fourm is an exception because it flood spammer bots with invalid addresses, I recently learned.)
Generally, when you sign up for an email address on the web, there are default boxes checked that ALLOW them to give out your name to "partners" or "select companies". The "select" group is anyone who pays them enough. <img src=/S/ranton.gif border=0 alt=ranton width=66 height=37>Hotmail did this. In fact, Woody had an article on how they took existing accounts & without your knowledge or notice, opted you in. All I received was SPAM at that address...and I couldn't cancel the account...it forced you to go around in circles. <img src=/S/rantoff.gif border=0 alt=rantoff width=66 height=37>
