    StyleMarkers (Word97)

    Hello Word Gurus,

I am wondering why the style markers signs (small box) are displayed for text with a Normal style within a document that has been sent to me? They aren't displayed when I create a document with text using a normal style. I have tried attaching another template and updating the styles yet the style marker still appears against normal style text.

    Cheers,

    Jocelyn Browning

I assume you are referring to the small black square that floats in the left margin. These indicate some paragraph formatting, typically "keep with next" or "keep lines together." It might or might not be part of the style; it could have been applied directly.

Usually, bringing a document to your system and even changing the attached template will not redefine the styles in a document. If you want to replace the styles in a document with styles from one of your templates, check out the Organizer dialog (Format>Style...>Organizer...). Proceed carefully, you don't want to copy in the wrong direction.
