    Bootable DOS CD

    Hi,

Not sure this is the correct place to post this but here goes. I want to make a bootable CD using DOS.

Can anyone explain in simple terms how to do it? I have Nero express and that can make a bootable CD so I figure all I need to do is to write an autorun.inf file that actually runs DOS on that CD.

    Any help gratefully appreciated.

I'm not familiar with Nero Express, but with the normal version of Nero you create a bootable floppy disk and tell Nero to use it as the boot image for your CD. When the CD boots a virtual floppy is created with the image.

You need to make sure that the floppy image you create has suitable drivers for your CD drive.

I'm not sure what your purpose for having a bootable CD is, but would using a Win98 (or later) CD do the trick?

If you're just looking to use a command prompt, I think you'd find everything you'd need is either there, or accessible using the CD.

Just didn't want you doing "more than required" if you didn't need it.

Have a look at this site:
    The Ultimate Boot Disk

If you look at the menu item on the left pane, "Bootable CD", it actually recommends against using a CD, but I guess it depends upon your intended usage. There's also a ton of info on all sorts of aspects of boot disks.

A bootable CD, that includes the right software, would let one recover files from backup media without re-installing the OS
