    WordXP-Merge (XP)

    What happened to this function?

    Scenario:
First-We installed XP and XPOffice and Access 97, to make sure all our custom apps didn't die.
Next- All Word merges are not working because of the missing ISAM controller(can't find table) (We fixed that by creating queries)

What happened to the merge tools?
I know that Mail Merge Recipients button is the new query feature.
Problem is...after providing the criteria, the desired data is not retained when you merge to a new document.
It gives you the options of merge current, All, and a sequence of numbers
Selecting All (which should be the result of your criteria, right?) literally selects ALL records in the table.

Even when using the Merge wizard, the query parameters are not being passed.
I keep getting DDE error messages in other functions...

My main question...who has been having problems with this and what are the known work-arounds?
    Thanks MS for more things that make you go ... <img src=/S/puke.gif border=0 alt=puke width=60 height=15>

You may want to return to the old Mail Merge Helper - see <post#=210761>post 210761</post#> for details on how to do that. In addition, you may want to be sure you are selecting DDE sources so you have access to queries correctly. And there is a white paper available from Microsoft that goes into some detail on the new version of Mail Merge at <!mskb=304862>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 304862<!/mskb>.

    Never mind, I got it.
Through online documentation (deep in the bowels of a search) I found the secret.
Create a new object to connect to (make sure its ODBC..or not) and save it as an .ODC file.
    Nifty feature...but what a drag for migrating users. <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15>
