Footnotes (Word XP)

There are 4 spaces in this footnote in this doc I am working on and everytime I try to delete the spaces it tells me "this is not a valid action for footnotes." Please let me know what you think. Doc attached.

Re: Footnotes (Word XP)

Looking at your document, footnote #2 contains all the text for footnote 2 and includes text intended for 3 through 6. What you see as a blank line or paragraph marker in the footnotes are actually what Word is calling footnotes 3 through 6. You can click on a footnote, e.g., footnote #3, and paste the appropriate text where it should go. Then in the footnote area place the cursor prior the footnote numbers (3,4,5, & 6) and insert a footnote and delete the superscripted number after the footnote field. Hope this makes sense. I've attached a corrected version of the document.

I took a look at your document, although I have Word 2000, & couldn't find the spaces that you referred to. Also, I could find no difference between your file & Gaylen's file. Unless you corrected it & reposted???

I did correct and repost however, it wouldn't be the first time I attached the wrong document to an email . If you hover your mouse over footnote 2 in the original document you'll notice a rather large paragraph of text. Hovering the mouse over footnotes 3 - 6 shows blank. When I double-clicked on the footnotes (3-6) it jumped me to a blank line or space. Since footnote 2 shows what appears to be a footnote number followed by the information in the proper sequence it took me a while to figure out what was going on, e.g., all of the text that should have been in footnotes 3 - 6 appears to have been typed in footnote 2. Also, if you compare the footnote numbers themselves in the original document you'll notice that footnotes 3 - 6 do not have the little square box around them as footnotes 1 and 2 do. It appears that footnotes 3 - 6 are actually superscripted numbers. Again, I hope this makes sense.

Hi Gaylen:
It isn't your document that I was questioning. The original document that was attached by LizardLips did not exhibit any problems. The original poster must have changed the attachment.

Didn't take it that way. Sometimes I don't come across that way I want to. Something I need to work on.

Re: Footnotes (Word XP)

First let me say that I did not make any changes to the original doc it is the one with the problem. And y ou are exactly right about the problem. All the text was contained in the first footnote and the rest of the footnotes were blank. i deleted them and the spaces went away. Thanks so much for your help.
