Problems grouping objects (Word 2000 SP3)

Can anyone help me figure out why Word is doing this. I use the Select Objects button on the drawing toolbar, select all the objects in this diagram (by drawing a large selection box around them), then go to Group.....and any object on top of the main graphic disappears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before grouping, select the main graphic (the screen shot) only, and send it to the background. Then select all objects and group them.

Thanks Hans. I was doing something similar, but instead of using the Send to Back/Bring Forward options on the different objects, I was using the Bring Forward/Send Backward options and these didn't seem to work. I've never actually understood the difference between those options. Can you clarify?

Send to back moves the selected object behind every other object
Send backwards moves the selected object back one in the stack

Suppose you have 6 objects A,B,C,D,E, and F
Start with them in order, A at the front and F at the back

If you select A and click send to back then the order will become B, C, D, E, F, A
If instead you select A and click send backwards the order will become B, A, C, D, E, F
If instead you selected C and clicked send to back the order would become A, B, D, E, F, C
If you selected C and clicked send backwards the order would become A, B, D, C, E, F

Did that help, or add to the confusion?

No, that helps. Thanks! Usually, for my purposes, send to back will be fine in the future. I can't think of an instance where one would use send backwards.

Bring Forwards/Send Backwards can be useful if you have a number of partially overlapping shapes that you want to put in a particular front-to-back order.
