    *.OLF file extension

Anyone know what type of file has the extension *.olf, i've had a look around on the internet and can't find it?

I saw something about the IRS but i think this file has its origins in the UK so i doubt it's related

It's probably an Object List File; it has to to with PowerBuilder from Sybase and PowerGen from E. Crane (a tool for PowerBuilder.)

I also found a few references (using Google) to "olfactory" files with extension .olf., to be used by a "scent card" in your PC, but it looks like an April Fools joke to me.

    Re: *.OLF file extension

I've never heard of it, and sites like WhatIs.com and Ace.net - who claim "Every file format in the world" and "Almost Every file format in the world" respectively - haven't either.

Do you get any information if you right_click > Properties... ?

It could have been an *.OLE renamed for some reason. Sometimes it is necessary to rename files to allow a new version to be installed - some people suggest changing the extension to .OLD - I often simply change the last letter so I have an idea what the original extension may have been...

    Re: *.OLF file extension

I checked with similar sites and found no reference to it either. My machine has no idea what to do with it, so clicking on properties offers no useful information.

The files have been emailed to us from another firm and it certainly seems to be a bonafide file (some type of form i think) the other files on the email are word docs, i'm now just interested in where files came from. Seems strange that even if it is some random forms package that there is no information about it on the web

    Re: *.OLF file extension

Have you tried opening it in NOTEPAD to see whether there are any internal clues?

(I won't say anything about the possibility of it being one of rOLF harris's "Can you see what it is yet?" pictures...)

Could it be a Computer Associates "Omni License File" produced by LicenseIt ?

It might be that the file you received is an old DOS document. I still have old, old Word Perfect documents on my server which were named by m predecessor using the first 8 characters of the client name, followed by a 3 letter code for what type of document. such as SMITH.AFF for the Smith Affidavit. Have you tried simplly opening the document from Word?

If you right-click on one of these files and select Properties, can you see any clues?

I'm intrigued to know why you don't just ask the 'other firm' what it is <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Nothing that I know of referred to as "IRS", though.

This must have been said by a "rogue Englander", because our Inland Revenue has no concept of Service. Take the recent Tax Credit fiasco, for example. And this amazing reply!

It was many, ..., many years ago, you know back in the daze when organizations used to provide "service".
