    Delete Key Doesn't Delete Text! (2000, SP-3)

For some reason Word 2000 has decided that it must question me as to whether I *really* wish to delete the highlighted text with the delete key. Instead of deleting the text, the following line (with a cursor blinking behind it) appears on the bar at the bottom of the window:

    Delete block? No (Yes)

Clicking the "Y" key will delete the highlighted text. Clicking any other key will not delete the text, but leave the text as is and remove the highlighting.

I have seen another tip in Woody's Office Watch #7.31 dated July 11, 2002 from Geoff Hart who experienced a similar problem. His problem appeared to involve the "Track Changes" which I have never used. I turned it on and off including making the modifications that Geoff suggested to no avail. I also replaced the Normal.dot with a known good one also to no avail.

    Any ideas?

    Bob

On the General tab of Tools | Options..., clear the "Navigation Keys for WordPerfect Users" check box, and then click OK.
