Try right clicking on the item and hold shift key down while you click delete. Warning this will bypass RecycleBin.

You may need to do a repair on OE5. Do you know how to do that using ADD/Remove?

Re: Outlook not responding

One trick that sometimes works:
Select the message above the offending one, hold down shift then select the message below it - this selects all three messages without focusing on the middle one. Now try deleting all three.

Have you tried updating to a more resent version of OE? Find here. You will need to Download Internet Explorer 6 { Outlook Express 6 is part of IE6} Here

Re: Outlook not responding

Hi, Doni ~

Again here is another problem of OE likely due to corrupt or bloated DBX files.

Navigate to:

Cocuments and SettingsYour UsernameLocal SettingsApplication DataIdentities{Corresponding Identity}MicrosoftOutlook Express

Delete 'Folders.dbx', 'Inbox.dbx', 'Outbox.dbx', 'Sent.dbx', & 'Drafts.dbx'. OE will rebuild the DBX folders upon next execution and you will be rid of the pesky loiterer.

Please be sure to compact your folders regularly to help avoid this.

Thanks for the response.
If I do delete the 'Folders.dbx', 'Inbox.dbx', 'Outbox.dbx', 'Sent.dbx', & 'Drafts.dbx' will it delete all of my saved e-mails and the folders in the inbox etc?

Cheers

Hi, Doni ~

Yes it will. You will need to create a new folder and copy the messages you wish to save into the new folder temporarily.

Hi, Doni ~

You are welcome. I would do the same with the other folders as they may well be similar and if not it would be surely preventative maintenance. Once a month or so go to 'File' > 'Folders' > 'Compact all folders'.
