'Locked for Editing' notice (Excel 2002)

Sorry if this has been covered already, but with the search engine down... and the MSKB didn't return anything useful.

I have created an Excel database and saved it to a network directory. Now, when I try to open it, I get a dialog box telling me that the document is in use by myself (see attached .gif). I know I don't have the file opened anywhere. I've even rebooted my system. It an attempted to circumvent this problem, I recreated the file and saved it under another name in the same folder and I get the same results. Anybody else have this problem?

I'll assume that the more obvious possibilities don't apply (slow network connection; double clicked the spreadsheet on a system set for single clicking).

    Some things to try:
    1. Clean out your Temp folder - if something associated with this spreadsheet has been left behind there, this may cause Excel to think the file is in use.
    2. Make sure you haven't opened a hidden spreadsheet of the same name (seems unlikely, but ...)
    3. Ask the network guys to restart the server.

One more point: some anti-virus programs can be too intrusive. You can also try:

    4. Disable your anti-virus software temporarily to see if the problem goes away.
