    XML to close the window

    I could really use some help. I have web pages that use Microsoft-generated XML. What I want to do is to close the current window. I know how to do this in javascript but I'm clueless with the XML. Currently, the XML opens another html file. I've attached a file with the portion of XML code that has the link that I want to change to simply close the current window.

    Just a little background -- In order to allow subject matter experts create training modules for the web, we have them use PowerPoint (2000) and then save the file as a web page. When that happens, Microsoft creates LOTS of XML code. (Yes, I know there are better programs to produce training but this is what we have to work with. <img src=/S/notmyfault.gif border=0 alt=notmyfault width=15 height=15>)

    Thanks in advance for trying to solve this problem!

    Re: XML to close the window

    What you're seeing here as a "<pnmouseclick" is not a standard kind of XML, it's more like a way that Microsoft's HTML converters create notes for themselves, mapping the application's features to HTML. XML is best thought of as a data layout language/concept/thing, and does not in itself contain any way to close a window. I think you are going to have to use JavaScript.

    JScher2000,

    Thanks for your reply. I'll add the appropriate javascript. It will be interesting to see exactly where to place the javascript to make it work.

    BTW: Do you ever sleep? <img src=/S/snore.gif border=0 alt=snore width=32 height=15> I noticed the time of your reply.

    Re: XML to close the window

    Just in case anyone else needs a similar fix, I deleted this code :

    <span
    style='mso-special-format:nobullet;display:none;color:#A50021;font-family:
    Wingdings;font-size:75%'>n</span>NOW click <pnmouseclick hyperlinktype="url"
    href="http://vhaabqweb1/svc/education/MandatoryTraining/ComplianceControlPanel.html"/>here<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>to continue.

    and replaced it with this code.

    <form>

    <span style='position: relative'><input type="button" value="Click here to continue" onClick="parent.close()">

    </span>

    Oh, the extra stuff Microsoft PowerPoint added in when converting a slide to html (and it's XML)! <img src=/S/drop.gif border=0 alt=drop width=23 height=23>
