Add a Program to a Toolbar (Word 2002 XP)

We use a program called "Dazzle" to add barcodes, verify zip codes and print envelopes. We have recently changed from WordPerfect where the macros were buttons on our toolbars and I'm trying to recreate this in Word.

Dazzle must be running to use the macros. In WP we had a button to start the program on our toolbar. I can't for the life of me figure out how to add a button to a Word toolbar to start another program.

You can create a small macro to start Dazzle. Then, you can create a toolbar button, menu item and/or keyboard shortcut for this macro.

First, locate the executable. Write down the complete path, for example C:Program FilesDazzleSoftDazzle.exe (this is just for illustration purposes, I don't know or have Dazzle)
Start Word, and activate the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11)
Click on Normal, then select Insert | Module
Type or copy the following macro, and substitute the correct path:

Sub StartDazzle()
Shell "C:Program FilesDazzleSoftDazzle.exe"
End Sub

Quit the Visual Basic Editor
Back in Word, select Tools | Customize...
Select the Commands tab
Select Macros in the list of Categories
Locate StartDazzle in the list of Commands
Drag this item to the desired location on one of the toolbars or in one of the menus.
Right click the new button to edit its name and icon (called Button Face)
When you're done, close the Customize dialog.
