    Delete last section (Word 2k)

I try to delete the last section in a word document without loosing the formatting of the second last section. I could program a workaround (Set all parameters of the last section formatting to match those of the second-last and then delete the the section break), but is there any easier way to do it? Of course I would prefer a manual way without the need to distribute any VBA code.

    Thanks in advance,

Re: Delete last section (Word 2k)

    Hi Hedgehog:
    1. Place the cursor in the second to last section.
    2. Go to File/Page Setup... Don't make any changes, just click OK. This reapplies all your page settings.
    3. Place your cursor in the last section & press F4. This repeats the last action, which was to apply all the formatting from the second to last section. This will be stored in the final paragraph mark in the document.
    4. Now you can delete the last section.

Note: If you have a page border, you will have to modify this. Sometimes columns don't work as expected. If they don't, just visit each of those dialog boxes while in the second to last section, copy them to the last by using F4. When you're done, you can delete the last section break.
    Cheers,

In addition to Page Setup values, the content of headers and footers could be different, and that's a bit more work to finesse. I used to have a macro for all this in Word 2 or Word 95, but that was pre-VBA, so I suspect it wouldn't be worth digging out.

Good point. I forgot about that. If it's just trying to copy the second to last header/footers to the last, just go to the last header & footer areas & click the same as previous button to reattach the previous header/footer. In a complex document, you could end up doing this 6 times: first page header, odd page header, & even page header (& corresponding footers). <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Thanks Phil and jscher2000

The tip with F4 was exactly what I was looking for. I didn't know, that I could use F4 in this way.
