    corrupted watermarks between Word 95 and 2000

    We have recently migrated from Office 95 to Office 2000. A number of documents have surfaced that were originally created in Word 95, and now are being used with Word 2000. They have Watermarks in them (i.e. Draft), that aren't showing up on the screen (I've tried everything possible to view it with no luck), however they are there on the print out. In a couple of circumstances there has been a need to change the watermark or simply delete it - however without seeing it, that poses a small problem? Has anyone else ever experienced something similar? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Panderson:

    A couple of things come to mind (which you may have already tried <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>.

    1. Are you viewing it in normal view, as opposed to Print Layout or Print Preview?

    2. Was it formatted as hidden text & under Tools/Options/Print, you have selected to include hidden text with printing?

    3. Are the documents being saved as HTML? If so, see
    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q209/9/13.ASP>http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q209/9/13.ASP</A>

    If this doesn't help, perhaps someone else has an idea. Good luck.

    Thanks for your suggestions, however none of them are "it".

    I have managed to get rid of the watermark, by selecting the header (view-header, Ctrl+A, delete). This takes it out, however typically these docuemnts are lenghty, with multiple sections, and different first page header/footer turned on, meaning this process needs to be completed at least twice (depending whether "same as previous" is on or not. Beyond that, you're deleting whatever else happens to be in the header as well, and then are required to re-insert again.

    I thank you for your response however.

    You said you checked everything, but did you check Tools/Options/View and see if:

    - Drawings is turned on?
    - Picture placeholders is turned off?

    Can you attach a small file that contains an example?

    The Draft watermark is the result of the following Print field. Use <Alt F9> to toggle your field codes:

    { PRINT p PAGE "/Times-Bold findfont 130 scalefont setfont
    0.97 setgray
    45 rotate
    220 -30 translate
    80 210 moveto
    (DRAFT) show
    40 110 moveto
    /Times-Bold findfont 75 scalefont setfont
    (For Discussion) show
    40 10 moveto
    (Purposes Only) show
    0 setgray
    " }
    ~~~~~~~~
    Cheers!
