Security set to high still runs macros (Word 2000/sr1)

I have templates where the macros still run even with the security set to high. Why is this happening? In addtion if the security is set to medium and I select disable macros they are still able to run? Why is this happening?

The dialog where you set macro security to high has another tab "Trusted Sources". It has a check box that determines whether installed add-ins and templates are trusted.

Thanks and yes unchecking the "trusted Sources" disables the macros except there are two strange things now. First toolbars that I created are still active whether I have the security set to high or set to medium and select disable macros. Two, when I set the security to medium I have to click the enable or disable buttons three times before the document is opened.

Perhaps somebody else can help here - I always leave the "Trust installed add-ins and templates" setting ON.

Have these macros been signed by someone you trust?

If the toolbars were created by hand and left in the template, that is, not created by code at run-time, Word will merge them with the rest of your toolbars when it loads the template. Word has no way of knowing whether those buttons will do anything useful when clicked, it just knows that it is supposed to merge the toolbars as best it can.

Regarding the Enable/Disable dialog, I gather it is asking because you have multiple global templates that it is trying to open. Now that you aren't trusting those templates, it wants your consent to trust them. I don't see any way to have global templates, not trust them, set security on medium and NOT get this dialog. Makes you want to leave Word open all the time, doesn't it. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
