Oh - I HATE it when I get email notification of posts with attachments like yours!

I spend ages clicking on the OK button to close the email <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

    Hi, Leif ~

<IMG SRC=http://www.krymow.com/images/fyi.gif> This is something that has happened for quite some time and with IE and Avant (which is on IE engine). Anytime you have text selected in the text box and activate any action, IE will crash. There have been times when I have hit 'Submit' and while it was slow to respond due to traffic or whatever, I would try to copy my text real quick and IE will crash.

This has occurred fo as long as I can remember with IE 5, 5.5 and, of course, 6 and is not Lounge specific.

Thanks everyone! This is good stuff to know - it will help keep down the number of grey hairs among the few I've got left <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>. I've seen these frustratingly erratic and unpredictable errors too, but had never picked the pattern sufficiently to put up a sensible question about them. Now there's no need. Just have to remember to do as ie wants <img src=/S/groan.gif border=0 alt=groan width=16 height=15> and I can keep them at bay.

Maybe it's worth one of the mods dragging this over to the ie board (or at least pop a pointer in there) to elucidate a broader audience.

Well, not exactly true here. I can highlight the text as above and do a Preview, Check Spelling and click on the Tag and Smile links quite safely.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by bigaldoc on 12-Jun-03 08:20. Just to see if the little thingie shows up.....)</P>Since one or more of you has probably already seen me "foolin' around" on the Test board, let me put the answer here. I'm using Mozilla and can't duplicate the crashing problem by highlighting the text of a post and hitting the post button. Moz deals with it just fine - I'm still at Version 1.2. I tried it twice and did not crash.

On the other topic of Collapsed or Expanded threads. I had never noticed whether there's the little flag on edited posts, so I wanted to see that while I was testing for the crash problem. My profile is in collapsed thread mode and when I edited the first post in Test, no marker showed up. I changed my profile to expanded, logged out and back in again and there was the marker. So I changed back to collapsed, did the second post and edited it and the markers are STILL showing up. Now I've got my 2nd headache of the day.....

By the way, I wish I knew who uses Opera, but I don't remember.....

    Al,
I think the reason you will always see an Edited flag in your Test posts in either collapsed or expanded mode is that it is the first post of the thread. If there was an edited *reply* and you were viewing in collapsed, you wouldn't see it at all.

    (Thanks for the Moz test <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15> )

    The 'thingie' is showing up in IE. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

FWIW I'm a registered Opera user but I quit using it because too many sites are not written to Web Standard, they are only written to IE compatibility.

Leif, I can't duplicate it in Safari either (which shows up in 'who's online as Mozil).

The crash also doesn't happen with Mozilla Firebird - but I thought it would be "one step too far" to suggest that Loungers switch away from using IE.<IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/S/grin.gif alt="Some of us just ain't quite as bashful as the Big Al!">

I'm not so sure about the "non Web Standards" issue. There are only two instances where I have to switch out of Mozilla Firebird<UL><LI>Macromedia Flash - where displays continue overlap pages like a wet blanket<LI>SOME java popups - which won't convert into additional tabs[/list]Otherwise, pages invariably display adequately.

    Hi, Leif ~

You are correct. My post should have read "any posting action".

Opera 6-dot-something had a heck of a time with the Flash stuff at http://www.bolle.com/, but that was a while back. At that time I was trying to buy some additional lenses for my shades, and that site with Opera drove me nuts. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I'm testing this using Opera 7.10 to see if it has the same dire consequences.
    Edited 1----
Nope, it didn't crash on that one. Now I will see if it crashes when editing a post rather than adding one.
    Edited 2----
Nope, it didn't crash on an edit either - I do declare that Opera 7.10 doesn't have this problem.
    Edited 3----
But then again, its not crashing using Internet Explorer either? How do I show the bug again?
    I'm using Windows 2000 and IE 6.0.2600.000IC
