    Purple underline (2002)

Sometimes when i go to write a message and type in an e-mail message I get a purple underline under the e-mail address i just typed. I know i can correct it by right clicking and selecting a name but what does it happen?

That happens if your default message format is HTML (Tools | Options | Mail Format). The address is being turned into a hyperlink. When the recipent get the message, they can click the address and start a new message to that address, independent of replying to the message recieved.

If you right click, do you get a number of names that all begin with the characters you entered? This is supposed to make your life easier. I don't remember the line being purple in Outlook 2000 (I think it might have been a dashed underline or something like that?), but I just switched to XP and there are many disorienting little things I have yet to see. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
