Windows 2000 Hangs at shut down

One computer in our office hangs up when shutting down as it disconnects from the network. Some times it will close after 20 -30 minutes. Some times it does not shutdown at all.
The computer was upgraded from Windows98 SE and the user authenticates on a Windows NT 4.0 server.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

What you have to do is uninstall the win2k security patch 329170. This was the culprit for all my machines hanging on shutdown as well. Once you do this, you should be good to go

And heres one more

Could this be your problem..or at least a similar one with some other software running ?

Try closing them down before you shut down.

SYMPTOMS
When you try to shut down a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 or earlier installed, you may find that the computer does not shut down properly.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 4.0 does not deal with shutdown and hibernation issues in Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, upgrade to Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 4.02.

Are you running an HP Machine? They have some patches for that problem.

Also read were Media Player 9 was causing the problem.

Hate to say it but I am running into lots of different reasons for this.

Bill, I would guess that a driver or service is not responding appropriately to the shutdown request. Is there anything appearing in the event log? Network drivers are a common suspect, or perhaps a failing NIC.

Also, you can manually shut down as many services as possible before initiating the shutdown sequence to see if it helps.
