    Selecting Text in PowerPoint 97

I am having a strange problem in PPT 97, SR2. Normally when text is selected, I get an arrow cursor and I can then click on the selection and move the text or right click and cut, copy, etc.

Now, once text is selected, the arrow cursor does not appear and the highlight is gone from the text. Text that is selected can still be cut or copied with the keyboard commands, (alt-x, alt-c, etc) just not the mouse. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Usually those strange screen probs in PPT are signs of a memory problem, usually followed by a crash and loss of work! My solution, save the file immediately. Close PPT and if necessary (ie on win9x) reboot the machine to force the memory free.
This is pretty reproducible stuff. I teach PPT and can now spot this kind of thing from yards away (literally).

Thanks! Actually the problem turned out to be a policy that prohibited drag and drop editing. Once I changed the policy, no more problem.

    Thanks again,

Now I'm curious, a policy? From within PPT? or within Windows. Where was it controlled from?

    WebGenii,

The policy that I wrote about yesterday comes from the Office 97 Resource Kit (or ORK 97). The policy edits the registry at
    HKEY_USERS(SID)SoftwareMicrosoftOffice8.0PowerPoin tOptions
The key is DragAndDrop and it should have a value of 1.

I use this policy (and others) to control access to my Terminal Servers. I just missed this option when I deployed the servers. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Have a great day!
