Show Names By - Sort Order (Outlook 2002)

I am having another problem with sort order for names. Here is my problem: all my contact records in Outlook have a "Full Name", "Company Name", and "File As" field utilized. On 50% of the records the "File As" field is set to "Company Name (Last Name, First Name)"; on the balance the "File As" is set to "Last Name, First Name".

I have set the "Show names by" setting to "File As" (Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address books>Outlook Address Book>Show names by)

Yet, when I go to create a new email and look up an email address, all the names in the Select Names dialog box are in Company Name order, irrespective of the "File As" setting.

    What am I doing incorrectly?

Thanks for the input. It turns out, I must have had a corrupted pst file. I exported all the records into a csv text file and then reimported the records into Outlook. Now all the file as designations work. Thanks again
