    Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2002)

    How can you add fields to the list of contact record fields being exported? Specifically, the standard Outlook "nickname" field is not listed on the available fields for export .

    If it's any consolation, I can't see how either. In VBA for Outlook ContactItem.Nickname is a valid property and I can get to it by VBA, but I can't see it in the field listings in the export wizard. Nor is it included when you go through the Access import wizard to import into Access.

    Re: Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2002)

    So if you can get to it in VBA presumably all that is needed is a slightly ugly fix such as a macro that copies all of the nicknames to an unused field, say "User1", and then add that field to the export list. If it were important then presumably a similar macro could zap the contents of the User1 field back to blank? The following will do the first bit
    Sub CopyNicks()
    Dim myOlApp
    Dim myNameSpace As NameSpace
    Dim myFolder
    Dim myItem As ContactItem
    Dim myApptItems As Items

    Set myOlApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
    Set myNameSpace = myOlApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
    Set myFolder = _
    myNameSpace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts)
    Set myApptItems = myFolder.Items
    For Each myItem In myApptItems
    If myItem.NickName <> "" Then
    myItem.User1 = myItem.NickName
    myItem.Save
    End If
    Next
    End Sub
