lost sharing abilities in Excel 97 (Excel 97)

My boss lost his sharing abilities on the spreadsheet that made for us this past Friday. We were both using it great on Friday morning working back and forth but then after lunch he tried to put a short cut down at the bottom next to the start button and it blew everything up. So we spent Friday afternoon trying to fix why he can't get in or even go to a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet which when he tries an error message comes on stating an "Application error and memory lost " or something like this. Can someone help me figure out how to fix this problem? Thank since this is my very first try at asking for help - ever...

Are you saying that only your boss can't access this workbook, or is it a case of no one now being able to reaccess the worksheet?

I can still use it but he can ope the file but can't go to different tabs or change anything in the file.
