Web Developer Accessories for IE5 (6.0 SP1 etc.)

I've become accustomed to using Microsoft's unsupported but useful Web Developer Accessories for IE 5. The install adds a few right-click menu items ("menu extensions") for viewing the code of the selected portion of the page and for viewing the page's properties (e.g., date last modified, fields collection). Mostly useful for "sniffing around" pages on the web, and also for one's own development projects.

I'm not sure why this is listed as IE5 only. I downloaded the EXE, opened it up in WinZip, and the code looks fairly standard. Maybe the install needs to be tweaked (e.g., maybe registry keys should be different), but before I dive in and mess up this new PC, I wonder if anyone else is running this with IE6, or if anyone who has done menu extensions sees anything funny about the installer? Thanks.

Jefferson, Take a look at this: IE Booster. The new version 2.01 is $29.95. There was a prior version (1.6???) that was free. It may not have done as much. It has been quite a while since I looked at it. Maybe you can still find a copy on the net.

Thanks for the lead. Looks to be worth evaluating.

    <P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by Phil Rabichow on 20-Jun-03 16:05. )</P>Hi Jefferson:
I've been using them with IE 6 for some time now. No problems. I think they were developed for 5 & above, but since they're "unsupported", they never got renamed nor the description updated. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Whoops! I just reread your post & missed the "Developer" aspect. I've been using the Accessorites, not the Developer accessories. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>

I have used them with IE6 for some time -- and I have seen no problem.

If I remember correctly, this only includes "View Partial Source" and "Document Tree". They both work fine in IE6.

As you probably all realize, some of the "Web Accessories" for IE5 do NOT work the way they should unless they are tweaked. That includes: "Copy Location" and "Images List".

I have the modifications if anyone is interested. These problems occur because of security updates that were released by MS after the Accessories were written.
