Peculiar behaviour of Word (Word 2002 SP2 Office XP)

I experience a strange behavior of page numbering:

I document was received from a customer who probably do not have Office XP. The document contained field codes: PAGE and NUMPAGES and a table of contents.

When trying to edit the document the page numbers showed 0 and the page numbers in the table of contents were all showing 0.

Are there any known bugs resulting in such behaviour?

    Thanks
    Bj

    Thanks Gary,

Earlier when I had simular problems it did work to change the view or close or print, but this time nothing did happen.
I'm wating for a "report" of how things went after the document had been dispatched to the "origin" again.

I thought that it night be caused by a known bug.

Which Office XP service pack are you running. This sounds quite like a problem that was fixed in SP1.

    Hi,

I'm runing Word 2002 (10.4629.4428) SP-2 as copied from Word Help Menu.

I also thought it was fixed in SP-1. But if the document was originaly made on a PC not having it fixed what then when it arrives on my PC?

Problem "solved". it turned out that you are correct. Our customer had a very old version of Word, so they had to update.
It is a pity that such things happen, since it takes a lot of time to try to solve such problems when the problem actually is that their programs are not updated.

    Thanks!!!
