Word search dialog - persistent border (2002)

Here's a curiosity. The Search and Replace dialog boxes in Word 2002, when they overlap onto another program's window, leave a black border in place after you close them. This happens with all program's I've tested, including Mozilla browser, Excel, Outlook Express, and Lotus Notes. See screen shot for black border across the face of Woody's Lounge in Mozilla.

Other dialog boxes from Word (Format font, Options, Save As) don't do this.

The phenomenon occurs with Word 2002 in both Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

    LF,

The difference between the Find/Replace dialog box and the other ones you mention, is that the Find/Replace dialog box is floating or modeless.
I've just tried to reproduce what you're getting and cannot (Windows XP, Word 2002).

It would be interesting to hear if anyone else can reproduce this; I wonder if it has something to do with the graphics handling on your PC?

Re: Word search dialog - persistent border (2002)

    Interesting.

I too have Word 2002 SP 2. On two machines I have Windows 2000 SP 3 (5.00.2195) and on another I have Windows XP SP 1. Two of the three are Dell Optiplex (one a 260, one a 240) while the third is a VIA Samuel 2 (one of the Lindows machines ordered from walmart.com, with Lindows removed and Windows 2000 installed). The three don't have the same graphics adapter.

On the Windows XP machine I can make the borders not appear by reducing graphic acceleration (control panel | display | settings | advanced | troubleshooting) by one line (it was full). But on the Windows 2000 Dell machine this doesn't have an effect.
