    Can't find the fixed disc

We had a power failure the other day and when I tried to restart my computers one of them fired right up and the other won't. When I use a boot disc I get a message that it can't find my hard disc or the FAT partition is damaged.

How do I reintroduce my computer to its hard drive? and after that, how can I repair the FAT without reformatting. I would just like to recover one directory from the hard drive, then I can reformat. I can move the drive to my working computer as a slave if that would work?

    Thanks!

I hope you're not stuck on this one. I would recommend Spinrite to try and get past this. It's one of the best utilities for FAT partitions around.

What was the cause of the power failure?
It might have been accompanied by a power surge and/or spike which could have damaged your drive and/or other components.

    Have a Great day!!!

I looked over the Spin Rite site but I don't see that Spin Rite has a utility to bring back the hard drive if it isn't seen in the first place. Did I miss something?

The power failure was neighborhood wide, not just in my house. I also have everything electronic on APC surge suppressors, so hopefully they did their job!

Have you tried hooking it up as a slave as you said above yet? Not sure it will see it, but it's worth a try.

I did try... Norton noticed there was a problem with the partition table and something about a string of text DOS needs and said it would fix it, but it did not seem to do it. I tried to find the disc in Win98, no luck, and in DOS, still no luck. So, somehow Norton sees it, but does not provide a way to access it to make any repairs with some of the utilities mentioned in earlier posts.
