Auto Email with Notes (Access 2000 SR-1)

I am creating an Issue Logging database. When the issue reporter assigns an issue to a person, can Access then automatically send that person an email?

If so, how do I do that?

Finally, just to add a can of worms, we use Lotus Notes v.4.6.7

Thank you if you can help!

OK, I figured out how to do this, however I'm getting an error message "The formats that enable you to output data as a MS Excel... file are missing from the registry". I have Office 2000 installed, so what is missing?

    Thanks again

It may be caused by a missing or invalid path or file name. Does MSKB article ACC: Error Message Using OutputTo to Output a Report to Another Format help?

Did you install the converters when you installed Office?

Hans - that kb refers to outputto rather than sendobject - thanks anyway

Charlotte - um - what are converters? This is an organisation install, so how can I check if they are installed?

    Thanks both

Just go into the database window and tell Access you want to export a table or query. The dialog that comes up has a dropdown called Save As Type. The items you see in the list are the converters that were installed with Access/Office. If you don't see Excel on that list or if you don't see the version of Excel you're trying to use, that's the reason for the problem.

Charlotte, Excel is there, as Microsoft Excel (5-7) and Microsoft Excel (97-2000).

Addtional info: The email starts to send, displaying a message saying "Now Sending [my report name] to a mail message" then stops with the message "[DB name] can't send a message for the reason stated in the preceding alert", although there was no alert.

Could the problem be with Lotus Notes?

Re: Auto Email with Notes (Access 2000 SR-1)

The code I'm using may be helpful:

    Dim semail
semail = "My name as it appears in the [To] section of Lotus Notes"
DoCmd.SendObject acSendReport, "R_Send", acFormatXLS, semail, , , "Action Assignment", "You have a new issue"

Where "R_Send" is the name of the report I wish to send

    Thanks again

Can you actually export to Excel? The message you referred to in <post#=265813>post 265813</post#> suggested you couldn't. The message you reported in <post#=266248>post 266248</post#> suggests the problem is in talking to Notes. Which message do you see first? I doubt you can use SendObject with Notes unless you have a reference set to the Notes library in the first place and tailor your code to that object model. Have you done that?

I just tracked down a previous thread on using Notes with A97. Take a look at <post#=257218>post 257218</post#> and see if that helps.

Charlotte, thanks very much for your help - It was a connection to Notes problem - the database you pointed me to enabled me to do what I need to do.

    Thanks again.
