    Outlook.pst file (OXP SR-2)

Why does Search consider Outlook.pst a hidden file? It's not marked hidden when I check its properties, but Search won't find it unless I check Search Hidden Files.

If it is in a 'hidden' system file, Search will not look in it by default.
There appears a difference in enabling "View hidden system files and folders" in Explorer and the Search mechanism looking there. On my XP, I can set the option to include these hidden folders in a Search. (Typically your .pst may be located under ..Documents and Settings...)

The file itself is not hidden but it resides in a hidden folder. HTH

HTH, thanks, that explains it. Checking the parent folders' properties I found that both the Local Settings and Application Data folders (all under Docs & Settings) are hidden. Does Windows think these folders are "dangerous" and need to be hidden?

"Dangerous" perhaps in terms of: "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing." There are stories of people deleting files for which they do not understand the purpose! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
