    Relationships (97)

I am trying to use the data from that was set up in another database program. When it was set up in the old program they used two fields to describe a job number. The first field had a code that represented a operation and the second field had a 01, 02, 03 etc. that represented the model number. The first field could have many records of the same number. Looking at the first field with the second field makes each record unique.
Another table would contain the daily job cards that would have the first and second fields like the first table plus additional fields for time, pieces, employee etc. In the old program I could join the two tables by the first field and second field. In Access, all I can figure out is a single field join so I end up with many more records in a query with these two tables.
If this is not possible, should I combine the two fields into one field?
Please let me know if this does not make sense to you. Thank you in advance for your help.

When you define tthe relationship between two tables by dragging a field from one table to the other, you are presented with a dialog in which the linked fields are displayed in the first line of a grid. You can enter fields in the second line of the grid too (and in the third line, if necessary, etc.).

If you do this, the tables will be joined on pairs of fields in a query automatically. But even if you don't, you can join tables in a query on more than one field by creating more lines between them.

    From personal experience, I can testify that it's only obvious in hindsight <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
