Master Slide (PPT 2000)

Two places exist in PPT 2000 to place headers and footers. One is in the Master Slide and the other is Headers and Footers. I maintain that the View > Master Slide > is the place to create the Styles of the Header and Footer place holders and insert any graphics, and not to insert the text of Footers and dates. This should be inserted in the View > Header and Footer dialogue box. I know it will work in the Master slide screen, but this is not the correct place
Any help please. I am a lecturer and have an ongoing battle with my more knowledgeable !!! students.

    Re: Master Slide (PPT 2000)

Although it is possible to type text directly into the placeholders in the Slide Master, this is not a good idea. The Header and Footer dialog presents a consistent interface to edit them.

If you fill in the Header and Footer dialog and click Apply to All, the settings will be applied to all slides.

If you want different settings for a particular slide, edit the settings while on that slide and click Apply instead of Apply to All.

If you enter text into a placeholder on the Slide Master, it will be displayed on all slides. The Header and Footer dialog won't show the text you entered; in fact, text entered in this dialog will be concatenated with the text entered in the placeholder.

It is not possible to modify the text entered into a placeholder for a particular slide.[/list]All in all, entering text in the footer placeholders is bound to confuse the user.
