autotext entires on toolbar (Word 97 sr2 on Win200

I have a few auto text entries stored in a global template (held on a network drive, loaded via shortcut in the Word startup folder). When I displayed the Autotext tool bar the entries were available in a cascading style:

All Entries
|---Normal
| |--- entry
| |--- entry
|---Header/Footer
|--- entry

This morning I rebuilt the template. I did this by starting from a blank document based on my normal.dot then using the Template Organiser to copy across the toolbars, and auto text entries from the old file to the new.

Now my Autotext entries on the toolbar still cascade but in an unhelpful way:

All Entries
|--- name of autotext
| |--- entry
|--- name of autotext
| |--- entry
|

I can't figure out how to reorder things in the drop down list....

Stuck,

Don't know if this helps, but noticed that you mention using the Organizer to copy across toolbars and autotexts, but not styles.
The initial layout of the dropdown you illustrate, associates the autotexts with styles. Maybe that linkage somehow got lost when you copied across the autotexts, but not the styles?

Something to try, albeit a bit laborious, would be to re-assign the autotext entries:

Open your template (perhaps best to try this with a copy of the template, rather than the live one).
Go to the end of the template so that you have some blank space.
Go to the Autotext dialog, set the dropdown to point to your template so you see the autotexts listed.
Insert each of the autotexts into the template (leave plenty of space in between each one).
Once they are all inserted into the template, go back to the Autotext dialog, and delete all of the autotexts associated with the template.
Then in the template select each autotext in turn and reassign it as an autotext.

The above would be laborious but worth a try to see if it might re-link the autotexts and styles the way you need them.
If you have a really large number of autotexts, perhaps as a quick test you could try this on a copy of the template, delete all of the autotext definitions and only redefine a few of them.

Thank you Gary,

I was not aware that the display of autotext on the toolbar was associated with styles so it does seem likely that loss of this association is where the problem occured.
