Lock Cells Using Combo Boxes (Excel 2000 SR-1)

I am using a combo box from the FORMS toolbar. I input other values in other cells using the INDEX function. I'd like to lock the cells once the value is brought in, but if the cell is locked, the INDEX function can't even bring in the value itself.

Is there another way to lock the cells so other users can't change the value or the entire spreadsheet once it's brought in? Perhaps using a template?

    Thx in advance.

Put the cell link in another sheet and HIDE the worksheet. The only cell that needs to be unprotected is the "cell link" the one with the INDEX can be protected.
