Word 2000: Numbering paragraphs. (9.0.3821 SR-1)

Previous WordPerfect user, new to Word.

I am trying to set up a macro for medical reports. The facility wants each impression numbered and a space in between. When using the auto-numbering feature, hitting enter two times stops numbering. I have tried indenting the impressions, but each line then wraps around to align with the number. I know that putting a tab in at the end of the sentence will align the next, but the facility does not like this! The only thing that I have found works is to type everything, bold all of the information in the impression, then format/numbering/custom (set at 0 and 0.25 indent). I really do not want to have to go through all of this each time I type a report and am thinking that there must be an easier way to automate and insert this into a macro, but am clueless as to how to go about it. I have created a macro that will do the format/number/custom, but this is still a waste of time when I have to stop and bold everything. Because each report has a different amount of impressions, I cannot automate the bold part into the macro. I also tried creating a macro with GoTo IMPRESSION, thinking that I could go to the end of the line and then somehow automate the formatting. None of these things have worked.

Here is an example of what the impression looks like:

IMPRESSION:

1. ALLERGIC RHINITIS.

2. SEASONAL ALLERGIES.

3. CHRONIC HIVES.

In my mind, this should be something very simple to set up within a macro, however, I am so frustrated after hours of trying to get this to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help,
Atelby

Word is all about styles. Create a new style named Impression and format it with automatic numbering, a hanging indent, and 12 points of spacing after. Create a template where the paragraph where they will start typing already has this style. Here's a rough example (dialogs from Word 2002, but similar). Hope this helps.

Wow! You're truly amazing! Not only did you address my question/problem in record time, but the actual picture on the steps of the process was awsome!

Thank you so much.

I felt your pain. When I switched from WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS and Windows to Word for Windows 2.0 back in 1993, my sanity was saved by The Hacker's Guide to Word for Windows by Woody Leonhard and Vincent Chin. I think you'll find the more modern incarnations (Que Special Edition Using Office 2000/XP) more relevant.

I guess you do feel my pain! I just switched from WP5.1 DOS, then took a brief crash course in WP9, and NOW am attempting Word! I really wish that WP5.1 DOS was still the rage. I could make some pretty mean macros with that program.

I do have the book Word 2000/Que, but it has been of absolutely no help to me so far. I will most definitely be back here when I get spare time (big laugh) to ask more macro questions.

Thanks again for your wonderful help.
