Mail Merge (Word 2002)

    I want to merge some addresses I have in a spreadsheet, onto a word document. Some of the addresses have names some don't. Where they don't, I've put Sir/Madam, so we can put the Name field after 'Dear' in the main letter. The Name field also appears before the main address on the letter, but this looks odd if the name says 'Sir/Madam'. How can I get round this. Cheers.

    Re: Mail Merge (Word 2002)

    You can insert an If ... Then ... Else ... field from the "Insert Word Field" button on the Mail Merge toolbar. For example:
{ IF { MERGEFIELD Name } = "Sir/Madam" "" { MERGEFIELD Name } }

    Note: you must not type the field brackets yourself; either use the "Insert Word Field" button, or create a new empty field by typing Ctrl+F9. You can switch between viewing field codes and field results by pressing Alt+F9.
