    Google Toolbar 2.0 Beta

Google introduced a new toolbar today Google 2.0 Beta that blocks popups, has a form autofill, and helps insert blog links.

Now if only Google would stop recording your IP address and your search criteria in their databases......
Or at least be upfront that they do it.....

    Have a Great day!!!

I thought they only did this if you chose the "Advanced" toolbar? With the simpler version, doesn't it say they don't record anything?

    Hi Beryl,

'Blog' is short for 'weblog', a kind of diary on the Internet. See for instance http://www.marketingterms.com/dictionary/blog for a definition.

Ah! "I see!", said the blind man to the deaf man ...

Thanks for that, Hans - although the definition didn't really cast much more light (to one who was completely in the dark before) I shall do a bit of investigating and follow a few links - I'm sure all will become clear eventually!

For example, look at the blog of fellow Lounge moderator <!profile=cbaldrey>cbaldrey<!/profile>, there is a link in his profile.

Thanks, Hans, yes, that explains a lot.

Just one question, though - what's the point?!

I mean, I keep my photoalbums on the internet so I can look at the piccies whenever I want to and can just send links to friends so they can look too, without forcing them to sit and look at them while I'm watching ... is there some similar reason for blogging? Do people check out blogs on a regular basis, or get automatic emails when an entry is made?

It seems to me just a diary of thoughts, the sort of thing you might keep in a book at home. By 'blogging' it you're making it available to everyone - but why would people want to read it (no offence to cbaldrey, of course!)?

Uhmm, this could lead to long philosophical discussions about trends in modern culture, or to the thread being locked (or both), so I'll pass on this one.

    None taken.... yet <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>.

Seriously, you ask a valid question. Originally, for me, I was keeping the blog as a record of my Various Linux installation attempts. Everytime something worked, it was blogged. Everytime something bombed (and that happened more often than not), it was blogged.

You see... I have a very bad habit of writing something on paper, then losing that paper within a week. At least with it being electronic, in a know location, I could find my information easily.

Having said that... as you've probably noticed by now, the blog has gone into personal ramblings at irregular intervals.

They have pills for that. If you can remember to take them and where you put them. What were we talking about anyway?

    Re: Google Toolbar 2.0 Beta

I have sort of an unofficial blog on my home page (it's in my sig)... it's the very main page. I never imagined how many of my friends and family check it often. I'm not a good one for picking up the phone or even writing an e-mail, but this keeps everyone who cares up to date on me and mine whenever they want (without filling up their in boxes with ramblings.)
    have fun

People read blogs for the same reasons they read fiction and non-fiction--take a look at the blog section at TSS done by Sarah Lane with links, context and blog tips. Blogs can also be teaching devices. They can be updated easily and displayed cheaply on the web.

I can't say I blame you, Hans, although it was a genuine question!
