Can't drag indent marker on ruler to .5 (Word 2002)

I'm having trouble setting a first-line indent using the first-line indent marker on the ruler. I can drag the marker to almost .5, or just after .5, but in order to set a first-line indent at exactly .5, I must go through Format/Paragraph.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm not sure if this works the same in 2002 as in 2000, but if you press your Alt key while sliding the tab marker, the tab slides smoother and gives you a readout of the location of the tab marker.

Well, Ctrl-T puts in a hanging indent at the next tab stop and if you use the defaults there's already one at .5". Does that help?

Re: Can't drag indent marker on ruler to .5 (Word

    Hi Erica:
Ruler tabs are affected by "snap to grid". In addition to what Spence & Kevin have told you, show the Drawing toolbar. There's a gridlines button on it. Pressing it will bring up a dialog box where you can either UNcheck "snap to grid" or change the default size to something very small, like .05.
    Cheers,

That's it! Unchecking Snap to Grid does the trick. Thanks to everyone for help!

    Phil -

That is SO cool. I never knew that was caused by snap to grid. It drives our users crazy! Time for a tip mailing! Thanks.
