    * Truncated URL in tag? *

    <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> Greets, peeps ~

Curious if anyone can figure this out:
    1. <LI>http://www.google.com/search?q="outlook+ex...Google+Earchsay

      <LI>link description
Now please mouse over both and look at the status bar.....

    The first link is coded as [ url] {Google URL} [ /url]

    - while -

The second link is coded as [ url={same exact Google URL} ] link description [ /url]

.....why would neither URL in the links not be fully recognized?? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

If you replace the double quotes, ", with their html chararacter equivalent, &#038#034, you're home & hosed.

I remembered a similar problem with the square brackets, [ and ], before, and how it could be worked around in <post#=217763>post 217763</post#>. I figured one of the special characters was probably the culprit. And so it was.

    Hi, Tim ~

    Home and hosed??

Yeah, I guess I could exchange the quotes w/ the character code, but that seems like an unnecessary hassle for simply pasting what you would think would be a plain ol' link. I guess my question is...I would like to know why it is occurring in the first place - I've never had this happen before - I've always just copied and pasted any URL and it worked. Why might you suppose it is self-truncating when inserted into markup tags?

In my playing around with this, I stumbled upon that simply removing the quotes provides nearly the same expected search results.

    Bruce ~

If you look at the source of the page generated by the lounge software, the HTML for the links is

    ...

where ... is the description (the line above may be broken depending on your screen resolution and window size, but it belongs together). The URL is the part after HREF= between the quotes. But since the URL contains quotes, the HTML parser (browser) assumes that the URL ends at the quote after q=, so the URL becomes

    http://www.google.com/search?q=

The rest of the text upt to the closing bracket > is ignored.
