    User Specific Startup scripts

I have just finished installing Mandrake 9.1 and I was wondering.....

Is it possible to have user specific login scripts?

Basically what I want to do is have the users login with the CLI login prompt, then depending on the user, run startx.

I want root and my user account to NOT start X, but all the other 2 start x automatically after logging in.

    Is this possible?

Any guidance for this Linux newbie will be greatly accepted.

    Re: User Specific Startup scripts

    Heya, very easy to do.

In the persons home directory, there's a file, either .profile or .bash_profile. You can see it by typing: ls -al (its a hidden file) just make sure when your done, the person owns it. You're going to have to be root or the person to edit it and if you use root, sometimes root take ownership and it won't run as the person.

Edit the end of this file to do what ever you want it to do. its a bash script so all you need to put in is the commands

    ie:

    startx

If there is something you want to start that is not in the path, you're gonna have to put the dir structure and the command

    ie: /usr/local/..../.../<command>
