    Really Don't Know How! (Access 2000)

    <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> I am probably bitting off more than I can chew! Here is what I want to do, but I am new at this. I have a table with meta data about scanned files, scanner, image name, date scanned, who scanned , and more data about what was scanned etc. This information is in a table called "Pending", the files are located in a directory "pending". I have multi-user, who have scanned and stored the files. I have multi-user who I would like to QA/QC the images and meta data records for each of the images. I would like to create a form that opens all the records in the "Pending" table and at the same time in the form or a separate window display a directory list of the "pending" directory. The "Reviewer" for the QA/QC would login, he/she would be excluded from reviewing their scans. So "reviewer" and " who scanned " can't not be the same person. I don't have any problem getting this part to work, excluding the person reviewing from the scanner, but how do I do the record and directory thing???

    This might get you started:

    <pre>Dim strPath As String
    Dim strFileName As String
    strPath = "C:Pending*.bmp"
    strFileName = Dir(strPath, vbNormal)
    Do While strFileName <> ""
    MsgBox strFileName
    strFileName = Dir
    Loop
    </pre>

    You are dealing with a rookie, I've never worked with VB or even the Event Building process. I don't even know where to start.

    Sorry, but I don't see what the purpose if of displaying the files in the Pending folder. Can you explain in more detail what is included in your "metadata"? Does a single record apply to a single file in the pending folder or does it cover several files or what? What would be the relationship between the records displayed in your form and the files displayed in the pending folder?

    Doing what you say you want to do is going to require VBA code somewhere along the way. If you aren't familiar with it, I suggest you get a basic book on Access VBA immediately and study hard because you aren't going to be able to just use wizards or drag and drop to do this.

    That little bit of code just shows you how to get a list of all of the file names in a directory and display them in message boxes. What you described looks like it is going to take significant VBA code to accomplish (although I am not 100% clear exactly what you are trying to do). You should probably start by buying a VBA for Access book and learning it before you start here.
