    Missing Footer (Word 2000 SR-1 / WXP)

My document has a normal header, but when I switch to the footer the normal footer box with the word "Footer" above it does not appear. All I get is what looks like a small text box: in the lower right corner of the page. I can click on it and get handles, change the size of the box, enter text into it, etc. When I delete it it seemingly goes away. However, if I close and reopen the Header/Footer toolbar it reappers.

Any ideas as to how to get the normal footer to show up?

Select File | Page Setup... Check if the bottom margin and/or the distance of the footer to the margin has a strange value.

    Hi Hans,

The margins were fine. However, I got around it by copying the entire document and pasting it into a new blank document.

I think that the problem was in the Footer style. I noticed that the Automatic Update box was checked (how it got checked I have no idea), but that feature in Word is downright dangerous.

    Thanks,
