POW

I am using "POW" to zap popups. It works, once you have zapped the popup for the first time.

I am pretty sure I read that a Lounger had a file that could be loaded into POW, containing 1,000s of
popups. That would be wonderful if I could find where that list is posted.

Does anyone know what I am talking about and where I could find that list?

Thank you,
Michael

Re: POW

Mods - when will the Search feature or the archived posts be available? I am sure there was a thread concerning this.

It is a real pain to zap these popups individually, especially since I know that someone, somewhere has a list that can be downloaded into the POW database.

Sorry for the whining

As you can read in <!post=Massive culling of posts,269652>Massive culling of posts<!/post>, Claude is abroad during most of July, so don't expect new developments to occur soonish.

I'll make you a deal. You subscribe to the daily digest of this board so you can find old posts in your email when needed. I'll continue with Word and VBA. If everyone picks a board or two, we'll have it covered.

Re: POW

I was hoping the original poster might read my post and offer the link to the list(s).

I'm not sure if you're ribbing me about "You subscribe to the daily digest of this board so you can find old posts in your email when needed"
Is that something I could do to contribute to this board?
Or am I a shmuck for not getting the joke?

Either way, Thanks for all the help everyone has contributed over the years.

Re: POW

Maybe the original poster will, if it was for POW (I can't really remember). My point is, since there is no search for the near future, we can all help each other by keeping digests and using Outlook's (or whatever mail program's) search features for the boards we use the most. No joke!!

If it could be coordinated, it could be a wonderful idea !

Re: POW

Hi Michael:
Spybot Search & Destroy comes with a built-in function to add a whole list to your hosts file. The link is where I donwloaded mine in December. If it's not good, I'm sure Google should have an updated link. I know that there are other pre-defined lists & I think that R2 gave a link on the IE forum, but alas, you won't be able to search.

Jefferson,
I was wondering how you came up with the old posts & now I know. Wish I had thought of that, but it's not too late. I get digests for Win98 & Word.

Re: POW

Hi jscher,
I've only recently started looking at this board so I can't help with the original query, but being a bit of a hoarder my mailbox is a bit on the large side (~175MB). A terminal mobo failure on my faithful Win95 system forced me to upgrade the system, import 5 years worth of mail and set up a proper archive! As a result of this I have the daily digests available for varying numbers of days (nnn) in the following categories since I first subscribed to the Lounge in 2001:
Gen Office (561), Gen Windows (474), Hardware (501), IE (568), OE (437), Win2000 (508) and Win98 (565).
I'm not sure about the mechanics of circulating a particular item but I don't mind doing the odd search here and there if someone is stuck. Is this likely to be of any help?
ps Belated thanks to the Loungers who helped me a while back when I enquired about Outlook98 and where to get it.
pps Lounge dictionary still flags common terms like mobo, IE, OE!

Re: POW

Tony, that's great. What I suggest is, if you see a problem that intrigues you and you think you've seen a post on it before, try doing a search in your Lounge archives (best if you group them into folders in some way to speed it up). It's tricky to come up with the right search terms, but maybe you can save someone's day.

Or, if you have unlimited web space somewhere, you could upload them... but I'm sure it's many, many megabytes.

Regarding the dictionary, I think the Lounge uses a third party dictionary that we can't update, but I'm not sure.

Re: POW

Hi Jefferson(?),
Thanks for the suggestions. I had already put the board digests into separate sub-folders, there is about 42MB total plus another 12MB of Woody's various Watches. I'll certainly try to help anyone if I can and as I'm keen on Hardware, I'll concentrate on that board and the Win98 that I mainly use.
Re the web space, I have a little space with my ISP, but am embarrassed to say that I don't know how to make use of it or upload to it. I'd better view the relevant board and start learning!
Re the dictionary, thanks for the clarification - I'll stop moaning about it!
I'll end my contribution to this thread now as I've taken it off-topic. As we might say in the UK - ' Woody's Lounge rules OK! '
